Coming to Campus

by Robert Inglish and Fern Fleckman

Introduction

If you are a new member or a returning member who has not yet been on campus, there are important steps to take. You need to register your car, get your parking hangtag, and secure your Bard student ID (optional). Here are the basics.

Parking Pass

Apply online for your parking pass. For information about parking, go to Membership<Current Members<Expectations+Orientation, and scroll down the page to Campus Parking. You can connect directly to the Bard Security page to register your vehicle. Note: for the Bard ID#, insert 12345, and under Student Class scroll to LLI. No fee is required regardless of the language in the form. Allow a week or so and pick up your pass from Bard Security, a few steps South of Olin Hall. Always display your pass in your car when you park on campus. If you have not completed the parking application prior to coming on campus, you will have to park in Visitor parking to avoid being towed. Review the map and general rules, which are also on the LLI website at Membership<Current Members<Parking on Bard Campus.

Names Badges and Lanyards

Always wear your badge and lanyard to LLI classes and events. Badges and lanyards will be mailed to new members who did not pick these up at the summer picnic or campus tours.

Student IDs

You may desire a student ID for discounts and access to Stevenson Library. A Bard ID is not required for attendance at any LLI class or event. Note the ID does NOT include access to Stevenson Athletic Center or pool. For more information, click on Membership<Current Members<Expectations+Orientation and scroll to the paragraph Bard Student ID. For new members, the IDs will be available in mid-September after ID numbers are assigned. The ID office will be available for ID photos between the hours of 11:00-11:45 a.m. and 12:30-3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Note, Bard students have priority and from time to time you may find that the office is closed to address other needs on campus.

Eating on Campus

Tea, coffee, and snacks will be available in Olin Hall, rooms 307 and 308, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Kline Commons, located near Olin Hall, is a cafeteria with a variety of food offerings. The Down the Road Cafe in the Bertelsmann Campus Center offers salads and sandwiches. The campus venues usually are open but sometimes may be closed due to student holidays. You are welcome to bring your own lunch and enjoy the campus. Do not bring food to class.

LLI Classroom

Classroom Rules

Do not bring guests to classes and do not attend classes you are not registered for. Video and/or audio recording are prohibited unless approved in advance by the Council and by the presenter if the presenter is not making the request. Requests must be made in writing, including the reasons for recording and a statement that any copyrighted material will be used in accordance with the copyright policy of Bard College. Picture-taking must be approved in advance by the presenter. Class managers will be present to answer questions.

Weather Cancellations

In inclement weather, check the Red Hook Central School District website. When the District cancels classes, LLI cancels classes. For delays in starting classes due to weather, refer to our website Membership<Current Members<Expectations+Orientation under the paragraph Snow and Weather Cancellations.
