Mission

What We Do

LLI provides educational and social opportunities for our members to share their love of learning and to exchange ideas and experiences. LLI offers non-credit and non-competitive courses and other events under the sponsorship of Bard College. LLI strives to be an inclusive organization and welcomes applicants and members from all backgrounds.

Affiliated with the Road Scholar LLI Resource Network

In addition to LLI’s affiliation with Bard College, under the auspices of The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), LLI is affiliated with the Road Scholar LLI Resource Network.

This network is a national organization that facilitates communication with similar groups.

Qualifications for members

LLI membership is open to all adults with a love of learning. There are no requirements around age, education, geography, etc.

LLI leadership

LLI is an all-volunteer, member-run organization. Our members volunteer their time and expertise; there is no paid staff.

Without member volunteers managing the organization and its programs, there would be no LLI.

LLI is led by the Council, which consists of elected officers and members at large. In addition, Council includes standing committee chairs appointed by the president.

For more information on how LLI is organized, see the Organization area of this site.

Member responsiblities

Members pay an annual fee (currently $175) that covers all courses and events. Membership fees are based on an academic year, not the number of courses taken.

Members must have a valid email address to receive communications from LLI at Bard (such as key dates, course catalogs, surveys, ballots, etc.).

Member must be able to pay their annual membership fees electronically with a credit card or bank card.

As part of membership, we ask each person to volunteer some time to help LLI. The time commitment can be as simple as providing a snack for our hospitality room. It could also be more complex, such as producing a course or serving on a committee.

Provide educational opportunities

Our courses are taught by members, volunteers, and Bard faculty. We also have great social events.
