Welcome New Members

Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you to membership in the Lifetime Learning Institute at Bard College. As Tom Esposito, LLI President, suggested in your acceptance letter, please take some time to visit our website, lli.bard.edu, where you can read our recent newsletters, view the LLI Annual Calendar and our Bard campus parking map, and see some of the many resources available to LLI members.

Each new member has been assigned a mentor, a current LLI member who will answer your questions about LLI membership and the Bard campus. You’ll be contacted soon by email or phone. Your mentor is happy to welcome you and to help solve any problems. Just ask!

Although classes don’t begin until September, now is the time to prepare for life on campus. Here are the steps you need to take:

Parking at Bard

Step 1: Register your vehicle

To get started as a member of Bard LLI, please register your vehicle with Bard Security.

LLI members are considered guests on the Bard College campus, and each member’s vehicle must be registered with the Security Dept. Please complete and submit the form in the link below, so that Bard can issue you a hangtag to be displayed on your rear-view mirror when you park on campus.

Please note:

  • For the requested Bard ID#, use your five-digit LLI member number.
  • For the requested Bard email address, use your primary email address.
  • Enter your cell phone number where indicated. Bard Security must be able to contact you if there is a problem with your vehicle while it is parked on campus.
  • Disregard the acknowledgment that you will pay a $200 parking fee. Thanks to Bard’s generosity towards LLI, our members do not pay a fee to park on campus. (This form is also used by others at Bard who do pay the fee.)
  • Sign the form electronically in the box. Please complete and submit the vehicle registration form as soon as you are able, using the button below:

Step 2: Schedule your Campus Tour

We have scheduled three tour dates this summer to help you learn about the areas on Bard’s campus most used by LLI members: where to park, the buildings where we usually hold classes, places to eat and purchase snacks, and other areas of particular interest. You’ll pick up your parking hangtag and have your photo taken for your Bard student ID during your tour.

All LLI members must have a Bard student ID card, which can also be used, happily, for student discounts wherever offered at museums, stores, and other venues near and far!

The summer tours, led by an LLI member, will be given on:

  • Tuesday, August 13 at 9:30 a.m. Meet at the north end of the Olin Commuter/Visitor Lot
  • Wednesday, August 21 at 9:30 a.m. Meet at the north end of the Olin Commuter/Visitor Lot
  • Friday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. after the Fall Luncheon. Meet outside the main lobby of the Bertlesmann Campus Center using the doors facing the chapel and the red circle sculpture.

Each tour will last about 1-1/4 hours. Please register for the tour of your choice with the link below – use the form even if you cannot attend any tour so we can get you your parking hangtag and make arrangements for your Bard student ID.

Step 3: Plan to Attend New Member Orientation

September 6, 10:30 a.m. in Weis Auditorium in the Bertlesmann Campus Center

When you arrive, you may meet your mentor, if desired. You will be given your LLI nametag, which you’ll be asked to wear to all classes and LLI events.

You’ll also receive a Bard LLI new-member folder, which includes helpful LLI information, as well as descriptive brochures about many of the opportunities for exploration and enjoyment at Bard College and The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts.

Step 4: Join us at the fall luncheon and lli member art show

Later this summer, you will receive an email invitation to attend the LLI Fall Luncheon. It follows the New Member Orientation and includes time for all LLI members to view the LLI Member Art Show and to enjoy a light buffet lunch and our special guest presentation. There is no fee. An optional campus tour follows the luncheon. Please RSVP. We hope to see you there!
