Bard’s Stevenson Library Welcomes LLI Members

Introduction

by Cathy Reinis

LLI members are welcome to become members of the Stevenson Library at Bard and can borrow library materials, according to Betsey Cawley, Library Director. Membership lasts through the academic year.

On October 8, the Around Bard class visited the Stevenson Library and explored the many collections in the library’s holdings, including the Arendt Collection, with Hannah Arendt’s personal library and the Sussman Rare Book Collection. The Library also holds a Hudson Valley Archive and the archives of Bard College.

Bard Archivist Helene Tieger had laid out materials about the involvement of Eleanor Roosevelt with Bard College. The class learned that Eleanor had both received an honorary degree from Bard and been a commencement speaker. She had also spoken out about Senator Joseph McCarthy.

LLI members Welcome

After meeting with Helene Tieger, the group met with Betsey Cawley, Library Director. She guided the group through the library facilities and welcomed them and all LLI members to become members of the library.
