The Center for Civic Engagement, in partnership with the Red Hook Senior Services Committee, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, and the Bard Lifetime Learning Institute, invite you to be part of the solution to senior citizen isolation with Notes of Care.
Notes of Care is a community project to collect positive and uplifting notes on a weekly basis for the 125+ senior citizens in Red Hook who receive weekly home meal delivery from the Office for the Aging. Notes of Care can range from simple words of encouragement to artwork, poems, or letters. Children’s artwork or notes are welcome! Any positive note makes a big difference in the life of senior citizens who are isolated and lonely.
Contactless drop off boxes have been set up on the Bard campus, as well as in the villages of Red Hook and Tivoli starting on Saturday, April 25. Here’s what you do:
1. Write a note, letter, poem, or create artwork for a senior citizen. Notes can be short, long, sweet, or funny…as long as it’s positive and uplifting.
2. Go outside to get some exercise and drop your note in a box at one of these locations:
- CCE Ward Manor Gatehouse Archway (Bard Campus)
- GioBatta Alimentari Front Porch (Tivoli)
- Little Pickles Front Porch (Red Hook)
3. Do it again next week and every week.
The more notes, the better. Imagine the joy you’ll bring when someone reads your note! For safety, if you choose to put your letter or artwork in an envelope, please do not seal it. All notes will be collected weekly on Fridays after 5 p.m. for distribution the following week. Reminders will go out midweek!
If you are not in the area but are interested in a project like this, connect with the senior citizen service office in your community and start or join a similar project. Thanks!
