That Pesky COVID-19

Introduction

We’ve been wishing all summer that COVID-19 would go away. But so far, no luck, and we don’t know what the fall and winter will bring. Bard has adopted a mask-friendly policy, meaning their indoor mask mandate has been lifted. LLI members are welcome to come to classes on campus. However, LLI wants everyone to feel safe. So because our members are generally in higher risk categories than the typical Bard student, our Council has voted to adopt a somewhat stricter policy.

To attend classes on campus, all LLI members must have provided proof of COVID vaccinations and a booster. If you haven’t done that, you will only be able to register for Zoom classes. If you haven’t done so already, please email your proof of vaccination—a photo of your CDC COVID-19 vaccination card or digital NYS Excelsior Pass—to [email protected]. In addition, we are asking everyone attending classes to wear masks when inside the buildings. Presenters may be unmasked when teaching inside the classroom. You may be unmasked if you are drinking or eating in a designated area, such as our third-floor Hospitality room, where coffee and tea will be offered, as usual.

Reporting a Positive Test

If you have been in classes or an event and you test positive for COVID or experience symptoms, you should email Michael Weinstock at [email protected] and let him know. He is our well-trained contact tracer and will alert others who might be infected while maintaining your privacy.

Beyond the Classroom

There is good news from the Bard COVID Response Team. Dining in the Kline Commons or the Down the Road Café will be open to LLI members. Bard Community Memberships will also be available soon to people interested in purchasing access to the pool and/or squash courts. People accessing the gym must be fully vaccinated and boosted. Information regarding these memberships will be posted to bardathletics.com.

Bard remains a mask-friendly campus. Students are required to complete training about how to recognize and respond to COVID. The college will no longer be doing random testing or contact tracing.
