Introduction
By now, all 39 of you lucky new Bard LLI lottery–winning members have probably survived your first semester of in-person and/or Zoom LLI classes and are happily settled in. All of you should have been contacted by an experienced LLI mentor who would welcome contact from you about any questions you have. Are you comfortable with signing into ProClass, registering for courses, establishing a course wish list? Did you sign up for too many classes the first time around? (A common rookie mistake—speaking from experience here.) Help is always available. The Bard LLI website has lots of information and helpful, brief tutorials.
Finding Your Way
Many new members who took in-person classes have found their way around some of the Bard campus, but want to know more. Where is the Hessel Museum of Art? Where are the gorgeous trees at the Levy Institute mentioned in last month’s newsletter article? What is the Parliament of Reality? This is a perfect time of year to grab a new LLI friend, a map of the Bard campus from the Bard LLI or Bard College website, and walk around exploring. There are gardens to see, roads and paved paths around the college to walk, as well as trails that will take you into wooded areas.
Your Feedback is Important
Feedback from new members about both Zoom and in-person classes has been very positive, according to Robert Inglish, head of Membership Development. Comments and suggestions about LLI classes and experiences are welcome from everyone and help the LLI program improve. Please fill out the class evaluation forms that are emailed to you weekly or at the end of the semester. And new members, be on the lookout for the new member survey sometime in December.
So is Your Participation
Everything offered through Bard LLI is organized, taught, communicated, and facilitated by volunteers. You are now part of this rich community of learners and, no doubt, have something to contribute. One way to find out how is to Zoom in on one or more of the many LLI committee meetings that meet each month. Scroll down on the monthly newsletter (after carefully reading each informative article, of course) to see a list of the various committees, when they meet, and who to contact to be included in the Zoom invite. This is entirely without obligation, but may give you an idea where your talents and experience could be helpful. This is how Bard LLI gets even better.
