Have You Met Lynda Christensen?

by Carmela Gersbeck

Introduction

If you haven’t had a chance to meet Lynda Christensen, one of four Members at Large, you should! Lynda joined Bard LLI in September 2020 and quickly raised her hand to become a session manager when LLI moved to Zoom at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Lynda, who considers herself a “joiner,” didn’t hesitate to run for a Member at Large position in 2023 when asked.

Why the Hudson Valley?

Lynda spent her career at Best Foods/Unilever as a senior manager. When Lynda and her husband, Jeff, decided to retire, they spent many weekends driving up to various river towns in the Hudson Valley, finally landing on Rhinebeck as the place to call home. Having spent most of their lives in a small town, Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, they liked the feel of the town, the ability to walk around the village to shop and dine, and the beauty of the area. Their neighbor, long-time member Dorothy Baran, spoke highly of LLI, and Jeff joined in 2019, followed in 2020 by Lynda.

What She Likes Most About Bard

When asked what she likes most about Bard LLI, Lynda quickly responded, “The people!” She enjoys hearing the life experiences of other members and likes that she can meet such interesting people that she can learn from. She also likes that Bard is involved with the arts.

Lynda is a people person who wants to help out and goes out of her way to meet people. Lynda is also a cancer survivor and often spends time speaking to people who have been diagnosed. She encourages people who have been diagnosed and need to talk with someone to give her a call.

Introduce Yourself!

Lynda sees the role of Member at Large as someone to whom Bard LLI members can offer ideas and suggestions, ask questions, and give their thoughts on improvements, which Lynda can then raise at Council meetings. If you would like to contact Linda, you can email her at [email protected]. If you see Lynda on campus, stop by and introduce yourself, and feel free to let her know what’s on your mind!
