Notes From Curriculum
by Mary McClellan
Introduction
As we begin Bard LLI SummerFest and our new member application and current member renewal period (June 1 to June 21), the Curriculum Committee continues to present additional offerings and prepare for our fall semester. Here’s a preview of what’s being planned.
Creating a Hudson Valley Home
On June 22, Jon Bowermaster of Riverkeeper fame will interview Hudson Valley author Cynthia McVay about her book, A Field of My Own: A Memoir of Place. In this book, McVay details how she summoned her creativity over a 20-year period to renovate a flagging apple orchard with a modest cottage, and turn her dream of “home” into a reality. This event will take place on June 22 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 103 of the Reem-Kayden Center for Science and Computation on the Bard campus. Registration will be available to LLI members on ProClass. Nonmember guests should contact Mary McClellan.
Planning Courses
Our plan is to take a hiatus from courses and events during July and August, but the work will not stop. The Curriculum Committee will be busy preparing new offerings for the fall and winter. As always we welcome participation by any LLI member who would like to share in the process. Our meetings are generally scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Anne Brueckner.
Fall Schedule
On campus fall ’26 semester classes will commence on Friday, September 11, and run for six consecutive weeks. Zoom classes will be offered on Thursdays, and several off-Friday classes will be offered in person at various locations.
Until we meet, please enjoy the summer, hydrate, and wear sunscreen!
