Pedal the Valley: Three Scenic Rail Trail Rides This October!
by L. Walker
Introduction
We’re launching a new group for exploring the Hudson Valley’s scenic rail trails by bike, and we’d love to have you join us! This October, we’ll ride together on three Tuesdays, covering roughly 20–22 miles each time, through some of the region’s most beautiful scenery. Along the way, we’ll enjoy waterfalls, mountain views, fall colors, and charming villages.
You’re welcome to ride the full distance or opt out along the way for a shorter loop. Come for the whole ride or simply join us for as much as you’d like.
Meet Your Ride Leader
Many of you already know Barbara Alstadt, an experienced ride leader and a new LLI member. Barbara leads tours for the Mid Hudson Bicycle Club and is excited to share her love of cycling with our community!

The October Schedule
Tuesday, October 13 — Ashokan Rail Trail Fall Colors, 11:00 a.m.
Enjoy the autumn foliage along the reservoir at the base of the Catskill Mountains. We’ll ride about 22 miles, covering both the east and west ends of the trail. There’s an easy opt-out point in the middle for those who prefer a shorter ride.
Tuesday, October 20 — Electric Rail Trail: Hudson to Kinderhook, 10:30 a.m.
A scenic ride featuring a stone house, a waterfall, and plenty of lovely views. The ride is about 20 miles, with a coffee stop in the charming village of Kinderhook.
Tuesday, October 27 — Harlem Valley Rail Trail, 10:30 a.m.
One of the most scenic sections of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, with stretches over water, excellent mountain views, and a beautiful ride to the trailhead too. We’ll ride about 22 miles to Copake.
We hope you’ll join us and enjoy some beautiful fall days on the trails!
