Notes on Returning to Campus

by Robert Inglish and Fern Fleckman

Introduction

If you are a new member or a returning member who has not yet been on campus, there are important steps to take. You need to register your car, get your parking hangtag, secure your Bard student ID (optional), and be familiar with LLI’s COVID-19 protocol, which is outlined in a separate article. Here are the basics.

Parking Pass

Apply online for your parking pass. Go to our website, https://LLI.Bard.edu, and find Membership<Current Members<Expectations+Orientation. Scroll down to Campus Parking  and in the second paragraph, click on the link “register your car here.” Then scroll down to “Quick Links” and complete the vehicle registration form. Under the blank Bard ID#, insert 12345, and under Student Class scroll to LLI. No fee is required regardless of the language in the form. Allow a week or so and pick up your pass from Bard Security, a few steps South of Olin Hall. Always display your pass in your car when you park on campus. Review the map and general rules, which are also on the website under Membership<Current Members<Parking on Bard Campus.

Names Badges and Lanyards

New members may pick up their badges and lanyards at orientation. Otherwise, the name badge will be mailed. Lanyards will be available the morning of the first on-campus class day, September 15, at Olin Hall. Renewed members who have lost their badges may obtain new ones also at Olin on the first on-campus class day. Always wear your badges and lanyards to LLI classes and events.

Student IDs

You may desire a student ID for discounts and access to Stevenson Library. A Bard ID is not required for attendance at any LLI class or event. Note the ID does NOT include access to Stevenson Athletic Center or pool. For more information, go to our website and click on Membership<Current Members<Expectations+Orientation under the paragraph Bard Student ID.

Eating on Campus

Tea, coffee, and snacks will be available in Olin Hall, room 303, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Kline Commons, located near Olin Hall, is a cafeteria with a variety of food offerings. The Down the Road Cafe in the Bertelsmann Campus Center offers salads and sandwiches. The campus venues usually are open but sometimes may be closed due to student holidays. You are welcome to bring your own lunch and enjoy the campus. Do not bring food to class.

LLI Classroom

Classroom Rules

Do not bring guests to classes and do not attend classes you are not registered for. Video and/or audio recording are prohibited unless approved in advance by the Council and by the presenter if the presenter is not making the request. Requests must be made in writing, including the reasons for recording and a statement that any copyrighted material will be used in accordance with the copyright policy of Bard College. Picture-taking must be approved in advance by the presenter. Class managers will be present to answer questions.

Weather Cancellations

In inclement weather, check the Red Hook Central School District website. When the District cancels classes, LLI cancels classes. For delays in starting classes due to weather, refer to our website Membership<Current Members<Expectations+Orientation under the paragraph Snow and Weather Cancellations.
